Our Mission

The H. E. Butt Foundation Outdoor School offers several different programs that provide guests a collection of activities that are operated on the H. E. Butt Foundation Camp’s property. These programs ultimately exist to support the mission of the H. E. Butt Foundation, which is:

To cultivate wholeness in people and institutions for the transformation of communities.

Why Do We Need Manuals?

Our outdoor activities offer incredible value to Foundation Camps, LLFC, Outdoor School, LLYC, and Laity Lodge. In order to ensure the safety of our guests, it’s extremely important that our various programs are consistent in the way they operate these activities in the Canyon. The manuals below were created to ensure everyone is on the same page.

Consistency Across Programs

Our outdoor activities offer incredible value to Foundation Camps, LLFC, Outdoor School, LLYC, and Laity Lodge. In order to ensure the safety of our guests, it’s extremely important that our various programs are consistent in the way they operate these activities in the Canyon. The manuals below were created to ensure everyone is on the same page.

Alignment with Industry Standards

Another reason for these manuals is to align our policies and procedures with “industry standards.” The primary industry groups that set standards for our High Ropes, Waterfront, and Target Sports activities are ACCT, American Red Cross, and the state of Texas respectively.

Setting Up Our Staff for Success

At the core, these manuals serve as a guide to the people who operate these programs in the Canyon. At the end of the day, it is people who minimize the risk and make these activities enjoyable. The goal of these training manuals is, very simply, to help clarify to all the people involved the best way to work together to get the most from our outdoor programs.

High Ropes

The specific goal of the Foundation High Ropes Program is to support the mission of Canyon programs by providing a memorable and adventurous experience for Canyon guests that serves to deepen their understanding of God, themselves, and others.

The Foundation High Ropes Program offers guests a collection of activities that are operated on the H. E. Butt Foundation Camps property. These group activities are all experiential in nature and take place off the ground. Most require the use of harnesses and rope systems.
