Notice: A Burn Ban is in effect for the Frio Canyon until March 9, 2026.

Whether you are still at work or taking some time off, our Summer Workshops are a great way to freshen up your normal routine, build on your professional skills, and create relationships with your local organizations throughout San Antonio!

What are Outdoor School’s School Workshops?

In the early summer, we partner with organizations in and around San Antonio to provide trainings and workshops that provide continuing professional education (CPE) hours. These are anywhere from a few hours to a full day, and cover a variety of topics, from outdoor recreation to SEL and mental health.

Who gets to participate in Summer Workshops?

We invite any San Antonio area educators, partnered with Outdoor School or not, to participate. The content can include helpful resources for schools planning and co-leading Outdoor School retreats with us out in the canyon, as well as for educators in the classroom seeking to enhance their curriculum and skills in the way of outdoor ed., recreation, and mental health education, and SEL.

Professional
Development Opportunities

We strive to blur the line between work and play!  Outdoor School, along with the organizations we partner with, work to ensure the experiences we offer are not only fun and enriching but also provide professional development (CPE) hours and certificates to help you advance in your career!

Partnerships with local
San Antonio Organizations

It is important to us that we partner with your local organizations. When the time comes and your school wants to take initiative in creating more opportunities for students to get outdoors, we want you to have an extensive network of organizations and resources to do so.

Programs free of cost
to our partnered teachers

We want to ensure there is as little a barrier to entry with all our experiences in the outdoors—as it should be! We believe natural spaces and outdoor recreation should be available and easy to access for everyone in our communities. Because of this, we work to ensure that signing up for any of our Summer Workshops is free of cost to you. If you are not currently with a school that is partnered with us, don’t fret! We often have scholarships available to help lower or negate the cost entirely!

Flexible Scheduling

With our Summer Workshops, we want to respect your summer while still offering fun opportunities to get outside and grow as a professional. As teachers and educators, the summer season is often a time to turn off your brain and rest, so our goal is to ensure that our Summer Workshops are consistently spread out, optional, timely, and full of fun and recreation!
