The H. E. Butt Foundation Outdoor School is proud to launch our inaugural More Outdoors Educator Cohort, and we’re inviting you to apply today!

We love hosting your students at our H. E. Butt Foundation Camp property and acknowledge that time-in-nature for youth should not begin or end with a school’s trip to the Frio Canyon. The psychological, emotional, and physical benefits of nature are too important to limit them to one outing a year. Yet, there remain stark inequities in nature participation and inclusion for youth in urban areas, particularly students from under-resourced communities. We believe that educators like you can help inspire these students to connect with nature more often. Through the More Outdoors Educator Cohort seek to grow your network across school and outdoor communities and equip you with tools to connect nature to your classroom and community.

WHAT CAN I EXPECT?

At each session, cohort members will participate in outdoor activities, reflect with fellow San Antonio educators, and learn from outdoor recreation partners. Throughout the four-month cohort, educators can anticipate exploring topics ranging from equity and inclusion in the outdoors, nature-based learning for students, and personal leadership development. Each session will take place at a different outdoor venue, including in the Frio Canyon at H. E. Butt Foundation Camp.

WHO CAN APPLY?

The inaugural More Outdoors Educator Cohort is open to any staff member from one of our seven San Antonio school partners who has a desire to expand outdoor opportunities in their school community.
